New NHS study data shows that 96% of UTIs are caused by only six pathogens, all of which are detected by Llusern’s Lodestar UTI test panel with accuracy of up to 97%.

In an abstract presented at the ICS-EUS congress in Abu Dhabi, Dr Saif-Ur-Rehman Kazi from the Royal Berkshire Hospital explained that the Berkshire antibiogram showed a “concerning rate of AMR among uropathogens in both hospital and community settings” and hoped that this data will fill “a critical knowledge gap and aid in the development of more effective, targeted interventions to combat the growing threat of AMR in UTIs.”

Lodestar DX allows a UTI infection to be ruled out – or confirmed – within 35 minutes. This result, together with an up-to-date antibiogram, allows a clinical decision to be made without the need for lab culture and antibiotic sensitivity testing.

The study was led by Mr Bob Yang, Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Royal Berkshire NHS and at The Forbury Clinic, and was conducted in collaboration with the University of Oxford.
