We’re working with Christadelphian Care Homes to help them triage residents at their always-sunny-in Swansea facility.
UTIs in elderly people can be hard to spot. Fortunately, the team at CCH Newton Court, Mumbles know their residents so well they notice signs of deterioration which may, or may not, be a result of a urinary tract infection.
Thanks to Lodestar they can then test for the six bacteria that cause most UTIs in a little more than half an hour.
Care Home Manager Katie Brown says, “We all think Lodestar DX is a great machine and concept. It delivers better patient/resident outcomes because of its ability to give a rapid diagnosis and therefore determine appropriate treatment.
In a care home setting, where we currently have a 50% population living with a dementia, it’s a great tool in helping to decide what is the cause of a resident being actively unwell when they can’t necessarily vocalise what the cause of their illness is. For example pain on micturition (urinating), frequency, burning, loin pain etc. Lodestar DX can help patients avoid an unnecessary episode of delirium.”
In a busy home space is at a premium. As Tina is demonstrating however, Lodestar DX can fit into almost any space. All it needs is a power socket, a shelf for the pipette and tips, and a fridge for the small box of tests.
Small is indeed beautiful.
The Lodestar DX analyser and testing system is registered with the European Patent Office (European Patent Application no: 22732302.9) and the US Patent and Trademark Office (no.18/558,490).
