A study undertaken at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading in the last few months looked at how Lodestar performed against lab culture testing (the so-called ‘gold standard’).
Patient samples were tested in RBH’s urology department using Llusern’s Lodestar DX as soon as they were provided, whilst tests for culture were gathered up and sent to the microbiology lab in batches.
Because Lodestar provides a test result in just 35 minutes (negative, or positive for an identified bacteria) a specialist can act almost immediately.
In contrast the average wait for a lab culture test result was 2.5 days, plus a further 3.5 days before action could be taken (i.e. a patient collecting a prescribed antibiotic) – making an average delay of 6 days between a sample being provided and appropriate action being taken.
A fast result means quicker, better diagnostic decisions, more targeted treatment and a more efficient NHS.
